Members of the Wilberforce University (WU) Optimist Club collaborated with the National Park Service in efforts to beautify the historic Wright-Dunbar neighborhood in the second "Trash Bash" that took place on Sunday, October 14. WU Optimists were provided with a tour of the Wright-Dunbar Interpretive Center and neighborhood prior to the clean-up to learn about the stories of the Wright brothers and Paul Laurence Dunbar to ultimately understand the significance of the Wright-Dunbar neighborhood.
More than 40 participants were involved, including a local Boy Scouts Troop with youth ranging from ages 8-15. Optimist and Boy Scout members broke into teams to cover areas between Broadway St. and Edwin C. Moses Blvd. Despite scattered rain showers, members from both groups had the opportunity to learn about the other's organizations while serving the community.
