What is a “professional licensure” program?
A professional licensure program is an academic program specifically designed to meet the educational requirements for a specific license or certification. These programs are intended for individuals seeking employment in occupations that require a professional license.
What is a professional licensure disclosure?
A professional licensure disclosure is a requirement by the U.S. Department of Education for all colleges and universities. It involves publicly and directly communicating with prospective and current students about the following:
- Whether academic programs fulfill the educational requirements for specific professional licensure needed for employment in a particular field.
- Whether academic programs meet the education requirements for licensure in each state and U.S. territory, regardless of the program’s delivery mode.
- These regulations can be found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR §668.43, section (a)(5)(v) and section (b)).
How does my program fit?
If your program leads to a professional license or certification, you may need authorization from the state’s professional licensing board before starting any clinical or field experience in that state. It is recommended to consult with your program’s coordinator to understand the requirements set by the state’s professional licensing board before beginning an internship or field experience in a different state.
Please note that while Wilberforce University academic programs are designed to prepare students for licensure or certification in Ohio, completion of a Wilberforce University program may not fulfill the education requirements for a license or certification in another state.
