The Gaston F. Lewis Arena will provide the backdrop for local, select high school basketball stars to try out for the World Champions of Basketball Team.
Because of a budding partnership between Wilberforce and former UD and NBA star, Chris Wright, 60 young, local athletes will get a shot at playing in Europe next year.
Chris Wright, is spearheading basketball tryouts featuring local hoops talent, October 17, Saturday afternoon and evening, at the WU Gaston F. Lewis Arena. The high school freshmen, sophomores and juniors will compete to be selected as members of Team Flyght World, one of Chris Wright’s business/community ventures within his non profit, The Wright Way Foundation.
In the end, 10 young men, 10 young women and 2 alternates will be selected from this competition taking place at Wilberforce. Next year, they will represent their families, communities and the United States at the World of Champions Basketball Tournament in Lausanne, Switzerland.
This top area talent from parochial, private and public high schools has already been hand selected by several scouting services. Wilberforce University is proud to be in partnership with this initiative.
“This is great for us to take part to see these young men and young women achieve their dreams. For us at Wilberforce, this is only one part of the great partnerships that we have forged with Chris Wright and the Wright Way Foundation.” – Derek Williams, athletic director, Wilberforce University
