From the Desk of President Elfred Anthony Pinkard
As a University community we know that given these unprecedented times, we must equip our students with the skills and behaviors they will need to be successful in an ever-changing world. That is why Wilberforce University, the nation’s first private historically black university, has reimagined our time-honored Cooperative Education Program, originally launched in 1964, to support our institutional emphasis on College – Work – Career.
The reimagined program will continue to be the University’s cornerstone experiential learning program and will assure that students are fully prepared to contribute in their fields of study upon graduation. Our students will engage in developmental work experiences at top tier companies that will build their breadth of experience, expose them to critical skills needed for success and strengthen their entrepreneurial mindset and skill development.
We are thrilled to announce the re-imagined career readiness experience, The Wilberforce University Co-Operative Education Experiential Learning Program, a 21st century approach in preparing students for their careers and beyond. The WU Co-Op will continue to facilitate student achievement through the institutional expectation of two Co-Op experiences prior to graduation. Our new partner model includes partners and affords students the opportunity to gain valuable work experience, a stipend, and tuition reduction.
Our newest Co-Operative partner, Chime Solutions, will be our first to support this model, through the anticipated placement of 100 students beginning Fall 2020. Chime Solutions was named one of Atlanta’s fastest growing businesses and has a legacy of partnering with top corporate organizations and businesses to deliver quality services to the nation. Students in this Co-Op experience will be placed in positions that range from marketing to communications.
We know that our students will receive a valuable experience through this partnership which will position them for long-term success. We encourage students to apply and faculty/staff to nominate a student for this experience.
