Job Summary

Wilberforce University invites applicants for the position: Director of University Choirs. The preferred candidate must demonstrate familiarity with Black spirituals as defined by the HBCU “Jubilee” tradition. Must also have familiarity with key collegiate hymns. In addition, the Director must demonstrate familiarity with African-American spirituals, as well as an understanding of the AME church tradition.  This appointment works a 12 month schedule. Faculty rank, based on experience and academic credentials, is negotiable.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Preferred candidate will be responsible for organizing and managing the following groups: The University Choir, the University Gospel Choir, and the Male Chorus.
  • Individual will be responsible for scheduling concerts, managing the choirs budgets and making travel arrangements when the choir(s) tours.
  • Duties will include student recruitment, and student academic advising.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • The preferred candidate must hold a minimum of a masters degree in Music, or Music Education (with a Ph.D/Ed.D.. in Music, preferred) at the time of the appointment.
  • Must have proficiency in reading music and playing a piano, or organ.
