Job Summary

The Graduate /CLIMB Admissions Counselor will secure and help grow student enrollment for designated academic programs – the Graduate Program in Rehabilitation Counseling, and the Undergraduate Adult Education Program – CLIMB. The recruiter will serve as a representative of Wilberforce University to prospective students interested in on campus, online and hybrid modes of education. The Graduate /CLIMB Admissions Counselor will report to the Associate Director of Admissions and will work collaboratively with other relevant areas such as Financial Aid, Registrar’s Office, Graduate Office, and Academic Affairs to facilitate and achieve operational efficiencies, and to avoid bottlenecks. This position requires excellent project management and problem-solving skills, along with research and analysis of issues affecting students to improve time-to-degree.  This position is also responsible for interpreting course equivalencies and understanding of partner transfer credit and academic policies, curriculum requirements and technology.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Execute appropriate multi-channel communication with Student Resource Center applicants.
  • Review transfer applications and render admission decisions.
  • Conduct information sessions for prospective Student Resource Center students.
  • Staff the Office of Transfer Services to meet with transfer applicants.
  • Collaborate with other team members across the university and within the Office of Admissions.
  • Overnight recruitment travel and occasional evening and weekend work is required.
  • Works with the Graduate Coordinator and the CLIMB Staff to facilitate the development of students’ schedules, and their onboarding.
  • Schedules, and staff’s recruitment activities including but not limited to education fairs, military recruitment, corporate visits, visits to hospitals and health care facilities, area rehabilitation and social service agencies, and other activities in support of established enrollment goals for both CLIMB and the Graduate Program in Rehabilitation Services.
  • Make recommendations to the university marketing plan to recruit prospective students, utilizing a variety of media. Prepare and distribute mailings and emails for recruiting purposes. Collaborate with management, marketing, and recruiting staff on various projects supporting the sales and marketing of University program portfolio.
  • Serve on university committees and attend departmental meetings. Attend training sessions required by the employer(s) to adequately perform the major duties of the position.Sound understanding of recruitment and admissions activities, knowledge of the adult education and graduate education (Rehabilitation Services) market, knowledge of financial aid practices.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a Masters’ degree supplemented by one to three years of substantive experience in admissions, recruitment, high school guidance, public relations, counseling or another relevant field.  Excellent interpersonal skills (written, verbal, phone) and work ethic required.  Must be knowledgeable and experienced in the recruitment of transfer, international and diverse student populations and related processes Travel required; must have a valid driver’s license and passport.  Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends. Bilingual/bicultural skills (English/Spanish or other) are desirable.  Strong computer and educational software proficiency required (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Publisher, Banner, Canvas, Admissions software) The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.

Additional evening and/or weekend hours may be required, as needed. Travel to other locations to assist with recruitment, as needed.
