Job Summary

Wilberforce University seeks an IT specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Primary DBA and CIO to assist with managing the university applications/network.  Responsible for the development and implementation of the Oracle/SQL Server life cycles as they relate to application needs, working directly with peers, and vendors to create database strategies that support the application and operational needs of the university. In addition, this role also acts as a DBA architect responsible for designing database environments for applications including partnering with application vendors and their technology staff to ensure the database environment meets regulatory policies and requirements while supporting application requirements.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform database system management (software installations, version upgrades, integrations, and configuration management, security) and ensure license agreement compliance with working with Primary DBA
  • Manage BANNER and other related applications and troubleshoot issues.
  • Response to third party application integration with BANNER
  • Responsible for Canvas system. Maintain user accounts. Update courses information. Troubleshoot related issues
  • Designs, implements, manages complex database environments, installation upgrades, and maintenance of enterprise database software and reporting user reports including Oracle and MS SQL Server. POWER BI.
  • Define database objects and relationships as indicated based on requirements of the application
  • Assist in the overall planning for the future direction of database software in support of the University’s mission and goals by monitoring and maintaining production and non-production database environments and implementing business rules via stored procedures, middleware, or other technology
  • Leads in the escalation of issues with appropriate internal resources
  • Performs all technical support of assigned applications
  • Utilizes and maintains appropriate change control procedures and standards
  • 24-hour Production system problem support
  • Daily verification of database backups, review and resolution of log and monitoring messages with Primary DBA
  • When provided access to personal, proprietary and/or otherwise confidential data, maintains such data in the strictest confidence and follows procedures to ensure the privacy, security, and proper use of data
  • assist with managing the university’s network
  • Maintain and repair technological equipment (e.g. motherboards, CPU, RAM, power supplies, servers) or peripheral devices
  • Troubleshoot system failures or bugs and provide solutions to restore functionality
  • Arrange maintenance sessions to discover and mend inefficiencies
  • Support IT daily operations
  • Any other task assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and/or Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • Oracle database administration and SQL programming experience is required
  • 5 or more years in a Unix or Linux environment
  • Familiarity with cloud hosting, including AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Oracle cloud
  • Previous experience operationally supporting production systems.
  • Windows OS
