Roland Martin, ‘The Voice of Black America’ Will Speak at the Wilberforce Commencement

Wilberforce, Ohio (April 25, 2024) — The nation’s first, private historically Black college/university proudly presents the 2024 commencement exercises Saturday, May 4th at 10:00 am (EST) in the university’s Alumni Multiplex. Journalist, author, digital host and managing editor Roland S. Martin will address the graduates.

Martin broadcasts the daily digital radio show, Roland Martin Unfiltered that focuses on a range of topics including politics, culture, sports and social justice.

The former CNN contributor has been named a top political pundit by the United Kingdom’s Daily Telegraph. The award-winning journalist has also been dubbed “The Voice of Black America.”

Martin says he will step into the Wilberforce gymnasium and feel a spiritual discernment before he selects a topic to speak. “The key is to always be prepared for the moment, because the room will speak to you,” he said. “And your greatness will be determined by your preparation.”

Saturday’s commencement will be preceded by a baccalaureate service on Friday, May 3rd at 3:30 pm (EST) in the university’s Alumni Multiplex. The featured speaker is Rev. Dr. James H. Harris, the presiding elder of the southwest district’s AME Church.

Martin broadcasts the daily digital radio show, Roland Martin Unfiltered, with a content that focuses on politics, culture, sports, and social justice. The award-winning Houston, Texas native is a former contributor to CNN, and has been named a top global political pundit by the United Kingdom’s Daily Telegraph.

His career also includes managing editor of the Houston Defender and the Dallas Weekly newspapers, and morning drive news reporter, anchor and talk show host for several radio stations. He is a graduate of Texas A&M University, an author of four books, a lifetime member of the NAACP and The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
