Yesterday, the President of the United States said it will be April 30th before we can begin to even consider returning to normalcy. For most of us, this was not good news. We miss our lives, our freedom, our routine. Everything as we have known it has been upended and the whole world has suddenly become strange and uncertain.
But, we are alive and if we are lucky, we have people in our lives who love and cherish us. We still have our talents, our aspirations, our quirks, our friends, our family, our dreams and our future. Let’s focus on what we have and not what we have lost and let’s remember that this, too, will pass.
Let’s also remember that self-care is our first act of self-love and says to God that we appreciate the gift of life He has given us. So, while we are sheltered inside and yearning for our lives to return to normal, let’s imagine a new normal and consider what we might do to expand our minds, hearts and souls during these unusual times.
Surround ourselves with people who love, cherish and affirm us.
Write our thoughts, feelings, fears, hopes, passions and secrets in a journal.
Create a Vision Board and imagine what our future looks like.
Stay focused on our classes and commit to doing our very best.
Connect with our friends and acquaintances via social media.
Try something new.
Pray and meditate.
Learn a new language.
Learn a new word every day.
Become a pen-pal and write letters.
Write a poem.
Join an on-line reading group.
Make a child laugh and hear the magic in their youthful exuberance
Explore internship possibilities as you consider life after graduation from Wilberforce.
Stand in the sun and feel the warmth of God’s Grace on our face.
Finally, let’s remember to follow the guidelines to stay healthy and well.
We may not be able to control what happens to us, but we can control how we react.
We can choose to be sad or we can claim joy in our lives.
Let’s choose joy!
Let’s remember to power in being the first of our kind.
We are Wilberforce and we got this!
