This past week students from all over the country poured onto the historic campus of Wilberforce University. The incoming Freshman Class were greeted by Community Assistants (CA), First Year Experience Leaders (FYE), Faculty and more for their New Student Orientation. The University is excited to welcome over 300 new students to the Wilberforce family.
The orientation began on Friday, July 27, 2018 with the welcoming of the incoming class with check-ins and reception. The new Bulldogs attended informative sessions, interactive mixers, and entertaining events held by FYE Leaders. The weekend of events highlighted what it means to be a Bulldog and the expectations that follow them throughout their time at their new home.
An array of speakers gave the incoming freshman tokens of knowledge about the University. President Elfred Anthony Pinkard, one of the most highlighted speakers, spoke about the importance of Wilberforce and its rich history. “I am very excited to welcome the members of the Class of 2022 to Wilberforce University and invite them to continue the rich legacy of noteworthy achievement begun in 1856. This is the largest incoming group of first-time students in recent years and the energy and enthusiasm on campus is confirmation of the Wilberforce Renaissance in action.”
The orientation ended the following Monday, with a candle-lighting ceremony. The ceremony was symbolic of passing the torch to the new students of the institution from upperclassmen. The event was a success and many of the first-year students are excited to live the Wilberforce Way.
